Josef’s 2nd Birthday Party

You may note that Birthday #2 looks strikingly similar to Birthday #1; with the exception of a much bigger and badder Josef iteration. We debated whether or not to have a big blowout for him–inviting his toddler friends from school and around town–but in the end it seemed like that would be irrelevant to his enjoyment of the affair, not to mention that most toddlers aren’t overmuch interested in watching their brethren open presents. So we stuck to the tried and true formula of just the family, and it was a lovely afternoon.

Some of the gifts he received were: a bike trailer for trips to nursery school, a dump truck, some wooden railroad tracks, rubber boots, and some tap shoes. Of course his very favorite gifts were two small replica trashcans just like the ones he likes to help me take to the curb each week. They became instant bath time fixtures.

It’s hard to imagine that a year has gone by since his first real word was uttered (balloon!), since he was barely walking, since he had merely a wisp of white hair. He is now so chatty and engaging, inquisitive, gentle, humorous. I must say that I am quite charmed by him. I am so proud at the fine little fellow he is shaping up to be.
