Holidays 2021

With flights being so cheap from EUG to PDX, we decided to make the main Christmas gift this year a trip to Los Angeles.  We left on the 26th and took Josef to Santa Monica so he could see his old stomping grounds.  We stayed in a motel just 5 blocks from where we used to live.  Sadly it was pretty rainy for the first few days, so my plans for lying around on the beach while Josef ran wild and played in the waves were never realized.

We spent the first day at the Santa Monica pier, which was Josef’s big xmas gift.  We got unlimited ride wristbands and went on the roller coater and dragon boat about 20 times.  We also had ice cream and played in the arcade–Josef was in heaven!  It was really nice to spend time together, just the three of us, even though my stamina was pretty abysmal after having just recovered from a really nasty two-week bout with COVID.

The next day we took the train across town to Expo Park and visited the California Science Center to see their extensive Lego exhibit.  The artist recreated many famous works of art with Legos, along with numerous original creations.  Josef got to ride in a flight simulator that did barrel rolls, and I was amused to see him playing a “video game” with a bunch of other kids, whereby the goal is to fertilize an egg with sperm.  Very educational!  The actual mechanics of how that happens was not in any of their minds, they just enjoyed making the sperms swim upstream…🤣

The next rainy day we went into Hollywood and visited a museum filled with all kinds of displays from Lucille Ball to the Batmobile to the Delorean.  Then we went downtown to Grand Central Market for lunch.  The next day we finally had some sun so we rented scooters and explored Venice.  Josef loved watching the kids doing tricks at the skate park while slurping a 24oz Nutella milkshake!

The trip ended with an all night NYE dance party at Rob’s place, which took about 3 days to fully recover from.  Josef got to binge on video games at his buddy Owen’s house, so it was probably the greatest day of his life.
