I didn’t document the holidays very thoroughly this year. I always struggle to find a balance between capturing the event for the future, and staying in the present and enjoying it. This year I chose the latter, and so I don’t have very many good pictures to show for it. I try and remind myself that there are plenty of Christmas mornings from my past with exactly zero pictures, and I never lost any sleep over it. It has become such a media saturated world, it’s easy to forget… I often speculate that when I’m an old man it will be considered exotic, and perhaps even more special, to have memories of events that aren’t recorded and available for playback.
Thanksgiving was at Aunt Sarah and Uncle JD’s new dwelling, which you can see is a great place to host a crowd. JD made another perfectly brined and browned turkey, and I did my best to contribute with an enormous roasted fresh pork leg. Everyone seemed chastened after last year, and the pie-to-diner ratio was slightly less obscene. After dinner we went for a nice long stroll, and Josef walked along with us the entire way.
Christmas morning was at our house. Rachael made a point of getting all the decorations up during the first week of December so that we would have maximum enjoyment of them. She made a gorgeous breakfast spread for everyone that came over on Christmas morning to open presents. I got a nice handmade coffee mug, Rachael got some more Spode xmas china, and Josef got a giant backhoe tractor and semi with a trailer. He also got letter magnets for the fridge homemade pajamas, and a wonderful handmade wooden barn and set of farm animals.
