Autumn 2016

Here are a few pictures from the fall.  Now that I’m gone so much, there are hardly any pictures to show for it!  I took some of his pirate costume for Halloween and the incredible haunted house that he built with his grandmas.  I think his contribution was more of a creative director than actual builder.  Josef, like his papa as boy, is fascinated by all manner of ghoulish and spooky monsters and demons.  He has also suddenly started making drawings, which is something new.  I included a picture of my favorite one below, as well as some spooky chalk drawing that cover the basement floor.

Josef continues to develop into an articulate and astute little lad.  Every day when I get home from work he comes running into my arms which is about the greatest feeling a dad can ever know.  I do my best to savor every moment, no matter how spent I might be at the end of the day, knowing that someday those greetings will be just a memory.  We usually get in a serious roughhousing before dinner, and then I read him a story or two in bed.  He started sleeping with us regularly when I began the new job, and I must say I really enjoy it.  It is very dear to be able to snuggle up next to him and spend time with him, even if we are both asleep.  In some ways it is superior to when we are awake!

My job is fantastic and I feel so lucky to have it.  I have already passed two of my CPA exams and am inundated daily with a fire hose of new information and skills to master.  Everyone at the firm is very upbeat, friendly, and helpful.  I worried about the turn my life might take by beginning this new endeavor, but I must say my fears were unfounded and things have working out great.  It sure is nice to come home to my beloved family at the end of the day.

There is so much more to say but I’m afraid this is all the time I have.  Tax season has begun so I will be radio silent until late spring.  I am greatly looking forward to another adventure-filled summer ahead!

Oh Hans, I so appreciate these communications! It helps me feel part of your lives up there and I hope to visit again soon. I am so glad to hear that your new job is working out and that you are enjoying your family. You are so right-there is nothing that compares to your little child running up to you with a big hug when you return home. The family bed is also a wonderful bonding experience and I never regretted sleeping with my babies/toddlers. It is the best feeling in the world and most cultures (other than 0urs) embrace it as a way of life. I am so glad you discovered this unique and magical parenting experience. Love and miss you-XO
