This year for Josef’s birthday (September 25th) we decided to just do a simple family adventure–just the three of us. The huge party last year was a blast, but it was nice to be able to just focus on our dear boy and really savor his special day. We went to the children’s museum on the riverfront in Salem, rode the carousel, and took a cruise on the Willamette. Josef greatly enjoyed his generous dispensation of birthday junk food! (He is very sweet–whenever he sees a giant cake or vending machine full of candy he turns to me and says “we should get some of that for my birthday right dad?” He is so good about not whining for treats, so on his birthday it made me happy to let him go buck wild.)
We then came home to the most elaborate and amazing birthday cake creation I have ever seen, courtesy of the Two Grandmas. Josef was very specific that he wanted a farm cake with butterscotch frosting and decorated with (of course) candy. Words cannot describe it, so I’ll let the pictures below do the talking.
Some of the items he got for his birthday were a bow and arrow set, a whole chest full of costumes, and of course lots of books.
Happy birthday to you, my precious son! I am very proud of you.

What a day! Thank you so much for sharing these memories.
