Since a family gathering was not in the cards, we decided to get a catered Thanksgiving meal and take it up to a rustic cabin at Clear Lake. This was actually really special and wonderful. The family gatherings are great too, but there’s something to be said for keeping it simple–especially after having spent most of the summer fractured by chemo and immune system concerns.
Christmas was a similarly intimate, and wonderful, affair. Josef got a big Lego set, as usual, and Rachael got a Karaoke machine which has subsequently changed our lives! Josef made some Santa inquiries, but they were answered satisfactorily. Not to mention Santa tracked a bunch of cinders in from the fireplace and accidentally snagged a bit of his red suit on something. Josef was pretty sure he saw sleigh tracks in the yard too!
