We began our transition into Autumn this month–squeezing in the last few weeks of summer activities with Janet and Henrique, enjoying the warm weather in the back yard, preparing the property for the coming wet season, putting up some Halloween decorations, and anticiating the fall colors. It was quite a shock to the system however, when the weather abruptly turned sour on us for the last week of September, pouring down rain and getting chilly. Somehow I wasn’t quite prepared for that to happen so quickly! Fortunately, it was just for a week, and then a really lovely October began.
We had a nice week-long visit from Oma and Opa for Josef’s birthday. We went out for a couple fine meals, went wine tasting, and got in lots of good play time. We planted a tree in the front yard for Josef’s birthday, and everyone buried a special little trinket with the tree for good luck. I put in a little pewter raven that I carried in my travels through India, Gramheart put in a mug that my grandpa made for her. Oma contributed her lucky Schweinchen, and Opa put in the submariner dolphins he earned in the Navy. We all shoveled in some dirt and had a nice little dedication. It will be fun to watch how the tree and Josef grow alongside each other.

And here are a couple more from the 12 month period. Nothing incredibly exciting happening, but it gives a sense of what he’ like these days…
