Here are some additional photos from Josef’s birthday. Oma and Opa came all the way from Florida to celebrate with us. All the family was there: Aunt Deb and Mary and Will Grandpa Steve, Great-Grandma, and Aunt Sarah and Uncle JD. Rachael made a spiced carrot cake with cream cheese frosting, and a plate of brownies for everyone to enjoy. Josef got his own special little carrot cake cupcake, that was made with almond flour and honey. (Still trying to hold the refined sugars and processed foods at bay as long as we can!)
Josef was in great spirits. The relatively small crowd of close family kept things from being too overwhelming for him. He was fascinated by the balloons, pointing each one out and saying “booon!” That was his first word! We ended up keeping some of the decorations up for a month, he enjoyed seeing the balloons so much.
He received many wonderful gifts: a silver cup, spoon, and fork from Oma and Opa, soft leather moccasins from Sarah and JD, lots of clothes from Great-Grandma, long undies from Grandpa Steve, a big fluffy bear from Gramheart, and plenty more. I was much relieved to note the absence of any irritating bleep-bloop, battery-operated, noise-making, parental torment devices in the loot pile!
Looking back on these photos my heart is so touched to see that sweet expression on his face as he gets his cake and presents. Wonder and innocence and joy, with a tinge of confusion as to all the fuss. It was a proud moment for his parents, to celebrate that milestone! One trip around the sun complete…

Such a precious time!!! Thank you for including all us extended family in your sweet boy’s life!!
